Parking at MRT Beach: Parking is easily possible if you are staying at Parc Maasresidence Thorn. Here, you have 1 or 2 parking spaces available per accommodation. But your potential visitors can also park for free in the general parking area of the park.

Doggy Beach is situated at the Noorderplas in the Weerd, between Beachclub Koers Zuid and the Camper Area. The dog beach is open from May to September, except during bad weather. Dogs are allowed to run off-leash, but you have to assess whether this is appropriate for your dog, because as the owner, you are responsible for your dog's actions.

The water is clean and safe, and while the beach doesn’t have that many facilities, it is a true safe haven for families with dogs who enjoy splashing around together during memorable summer days. The entrance fee is €10 for a full day, which includes one dog, two adults, and two children. There is a €3.00 surcharge for each additional dog and children under 12 enter for free.

De Grote Hegge, located near Thorn, is a tranquil beach area celebrated for its natural beauty and calm waters. At the Grote Heggerplas, visitors can enjoy a sandy day beach in Limburg and a unique dive site, easily accessible on foot from the parking area. This lake in Limburg is home to one of the oldest freshwater shipwrecks in Northern Europe, an ancient gravel barge known as the Prussian wreck.

During April and May, the Grote Heggerplas offers excellent water visibility, coinciding with the zander mating season, providing a great opportunity for up-close photography of these fish. The beach features fresh water and a sandy shore, and dogs are also welcome to swim there. Facilities include an informational board, waste bins, toilets, a drift line, and a sunbathing area. The Maasgouw municipality has designated the Grote Hegge beach as a swimming area. However, you should never swim here alone and you must stay within the drift lines for safety. Adjacent to the dive site, you will find the Maaskernen tourist boarding point, offering boat trips to Thorn, Wessem, and Maasbracht. Additionally, there is a landing stage, footbridge, and three parking areas available for visitors.

For those with a diving license, De Grote Hegge in the Maasplassen offers an exciting dive experience. Although visibility varies, divers can explore several interesting underwater features, including one of the largest freshwater wrecks in Northern Europe.

Diving at De Grote Hegge

De Grote Hegge is a remarkable dive site near Thorn, featuring one of the largest freshwater shipwrecks in Northern Europe, the Prussian wreck. The barge is located a few meters from the shore, with its deck partially buried in the lakebed. The wreck's stern hosts pike and zander, while eels inhabit the soft bottom of the open hold. In springtime, particularly during April and May, is the optimal time to dive at the Prussian wreck due to the improved water visibility and the zander mating season. The wreck itself offers good visibility, but access is limited to very experienced wreck divers. The barge's open hold is accessible to everyone, and other nearby attractions include a small yacht.

Entry to the dive site in Thorn is free for certified divers and after parking, you just have to show your diving certificate at the barrier, then enter the water where the bushes begin and the shoring ends.

Situated to the west of Ohé en Laak’s center, the day beach offers a swimming area, bordered by the Maas to the west, and features many trees and bushes along its southern and western shores. To the east lies the De Maasterp campsite and you can find a marina to the southeast. Dilkensplas covers approximately 15 hectares, with a swimming zone of about 0.55 hectares. There is no lifeguard supervision, but it is stil one of the best places for swimming in Valkenburg.
