With its pristine beaches, rich cultural heritage, and lively atmosphere, Lloret de Mar beckons travelers from all corners of the globe seeking the perfect holiday escape. Join me as I recount my unforgettable experience soaking up the sun, indulging in delectable cuisine, and immersing myself in the charm of this enchanting destination. This summer, you can follow my footsteps and live your best life!
The Sun: Arrival and Exploration
It was a scorching hot summer day in July during the second leg of my Barcelona trip, which I lovingly recall as the beach paradise part! As I got out of our rental car, I was immediately greeted by the salty breeze and the inviting warmth of the Mediterranean sun. As I made my way to our chosen villa (more on this later!), I couldn't help but marvel at the scenic beauty that surrounded me – from the azure waters lapping against the golden shores to the rugged cliffs that framed the coastline.
After settling in, I embarked on a leisurely stroll through the charming streets of Lloret de Mar. Admiring the colorful facades of the buildings and the bustling atmosphere of the town center, I couldn't help but feel a sense of excitement for the adventures that lay ahead.
The Villa: Villa Paulina in Lloret de Mar, Catalonia
I was on this holiday with 3 other friends and we wanted to have a comfortable, luxurious experience. For us that meant a villa with no other people living there, and everything we might need during our stay right under our fingertips. For this, Villa Paulina was the ideal spot.
This lovely holiday home is situated in Lloret de Mar, conveniently located just 1.5 km away from both the beach and the town center, and a mere 10 km from Tossa de Mar. The spacious 300 m2 residence spans two floors. The upper level features a generously sized living room equipped with a television and a fully stocked kitchenette with a microwave, dishwasher, and washing machine. We had two double bedrooms all to ourselves on this level, one with twin beds and another with a double bed (complete with an ensuite shower), as well as a separate bathroom with a shower, and this arrangement helped us a lot with getting ready in time and not being late for our dinner reservations!
On the lower level, there was an additional living room with a television, a kitchen with a microwave, dishwasher, and washing machine, along with a dining area and access to the outdoor space. Also on this level, there was another double room with a double bed (also with an ensuite shower) and another bathroom with a shower.
Outside, we had the pleasure of enjoying a private pool with a terrace, and we utilized this to the maximum, because this way we could relax in the pool well after our beach day was officially over, we even tried our hands at creating our own cocktails and tapas spreads, with some level of success.
The Sea: Beach Bliss and Water Activities
No visit to Lloret de Mar would be complete without spending a day lounging on its pristine beaches. Armed with sunscreen and a towel, I made my way to the renowned Platja de Lloret, where I spent the day basking in the sun, taking refreshing dips in the crystal-clear waters, and indulging in some well-deserved relaxation.
For those seeking a bit more adventure, the region offers a plethora of water activities, from jet skiing and parasailing to paddleboarding and snorkeling. I am more of a sit, read and dip kind of girlie, so time kind of slipped away from me between swimming in the warm water and reading my gripping novel (ok, it was Daisy Jones and the Six, don’t judge me for riding the Taylor Jenkins Reid train, it is a good novel and an easy beach read).
The Sangria: Cultural Immersion and Gastronomic Delights
Eager to delve deeper into Lloret de Mar's rich cultural heritage, I spent an entire day exploring its historical landmarks and attractions. From the majestic Santa Clotilde Gardens, with its stunning sea views and lush greenery, to the imposing Castle of Sant Joan, which offers panoramic vistas of the town and coastline, each site gives you a glimpse into the town's storied past.
Of course, no visit to Catalonia would be complete without indulging in its world-renowned cuisine, and Lloret de Mar certainly did not disappoint. I savored dishes such as paella, seafood tapas, and refreshing gazpacho, each bursting with fresh flavors and local ingredients, just the way I like it.
A cold sangria is the perfect drink for warm summer nights but I like being a bit cheeky from time to time so I often indulged in this refreshing drink during the daytime as well. Don’t knock it till you try it, and while on holiday, anything goes in my opinion!
The Fun: Sunset Strolls and Nightlife Adventures
As the sun began to dip below the horizon, casting a golden glow over the town, I often embarked on a leisurely sunset stroll along the promenade. With the sound of waves gently crashing against the shore and the salty sea breeze caressing my skin, it was always a moment of pure tranquility and serenity.
As night fell, Lloret de Mar truly came alive, with its vibrant nightlife scene offering endless entertainment options. From cozy beachfront bars serving up cocktails and live music to lively clubs pulsating with energy and excitement, there was something for everyone to enjoy well into the wee hours of the morning.
Truth be told, my holiday in Lloret de Mar was nothing short of magical, filled with sun-soaked days and cherished memories that will last a lifetime. Whether you're seeking relaxation on the beach, immersion in culture and history, or excitement and nightlife, Lloret de Mar has it all – making it the perfect destination for your next holiday getaway.
What more could a girl need? Well, there is a 10% discount for all the available periods between 01.04 - 12.07 for Villa Paulina, so why not book your summer holiday in advance and save a little extra for all of those sangrias? Don’t forget your sunscreen!
