Ventimiglia is the last town on the northwest coast of Italy before the French border. Located on the Italian Riviera, this beautiful town is comprised of basically two parts: one older one that is on a hilland one modern one that runs along the sea. Ventimiglia Alta, this is the name of it, and its pedestrian streets will give you the chance to see how much the place lives up to its name and fulfills the highest of it's visitors' expectations. To enter the old town you must cross the river, then go through the old gate in the wall and go up towards the cathedral. The main street is sided by colorful houses that live up the medieval look of the place, and the cathedral you will get to is said to have been built on the site of a Roman temple. The Oratorio dei Neri is also a place you should stop at, it's quite fascinating actually. When you get to the actual top of the hill, you'll find the Church of San Michele Archangel that is said to be built on the site of a Pagan temple. There are shops and bars that dot the old town as well, so when on holiday in Liguria, Ventimiglia, make sure you grab a souvenir on the way out of the old town at least, you will surely want to remember this experience, and why not...brag about it to anyone who will listen.
